Who is TheAKAEducator?
I am an educator who puts the needs of her students first!
I am a teacher, an educational technologist, a coach, a mentor, a student, a mom, and a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
I am currently an educational technologist with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) in Okinawa, Japan. I started my teaching career in 2010 at Kadena Middle School where I was a social studies teacher for 3 years. I later made a professional transition into the world of special education where I taught for 3 years. My final year at KMS, I was the special education department chairperson.
I blog and tweet about technology, coaching, mentoring, social media, traveling, and all aspects of teaching. I specifically love classroom management, motivating students, special education, and building relationships/partnerships with parents and community stakeholders.
Peer support is so important to me. If I know something that will help someone else, I choose to share it. My personal goal is to support new teachers and assist them in filling their teacher toolboxes with tips, techniques, and strategies in order to make them successful. I was fortunate to have amazing mentors who were always there to provide words of encouragement for me. I want to give that opportunity to other teachers.
