About Me

My World…

In the beginning, a young teacher had a dream to create a webpage, a blog and a YouTube channel to highlight what she does, who she is, and what she loves.  I’d like to welcome you on my journey of building my brand, my business and our online educator toolbox.

I am currently an educational technologist with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).  I started my teaching career in 2010 in Okinawa, Japan and was a social studies teacher for 3 years.  I then made a professional move into the wonderful world of special education where I taught for 3 years.

Currently, I still live in Japan and love my life here. I am a mother to a wonderful 6 year old named Ava.  We frequently visit the beach, the seawall, and really love eating delicious food.  Being a mother has changed me.  I am so fortunate to be Ava’s mom.  She is an amazing young lady who keeps me laughing.

Leading up to the creation of this site, I created a FaceBook group comprised of more than 1150 educators who are all members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.  We discuss all facets of education to include professional development, classroom management, integrating technology, STEM/STEAM, current policies that affect education in America, social justice, and school improvement just to name a few.  The AKAEducators group is so important to me.  I started it with a hope that it would help a few ladies.  I never envisioned it would flourish the way it has.  If any of my AKAEducators are reapicding this blog, just know that I love and appreciate every single one of you!

As you can see from the blog cover-photo, I have a lot of interests.  I love traveling, Japan, listening to music, and computers.  If you are interested in knowing why the other images are present on the picture, just ask.  I blog about traveling, technology, coaching, mentoring, social media, parenting, and all aspects of teaching.  I specifically love classroom management, motivating students, special education, and building relationships/partnerships with parents and community stakeholders.

Peer support is so important to me.  If I know something that will help someone else, I choose to share it.  My personal goal is to support new teachers and assist them in filling their teacher toolboxes with tips, techniques, and strategies in order to make them successful.  I was fortunate to have amazing mentors who were always there to provide words of encouragement for me and I want to provide that same support to others.

In a nutshell, I am who I am and I love her!  I am a teacher who puts students first and I ask that you do the same.  Lets do it together!
